Principal's Welcome

Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Karabar High School and Distance Education Centre. The school is an integrated high school and distance education provider.

Karabar High School and Distance Education Centre has a strong record and proud community reputation for providing excellent educational programs and outcomes for all students. We are always striving to improve the quality of the outcomes we deliver for all students and value your feedback and suggestions.

We believe the success of our school stems from the active and productive partnerships that exist between of students, parents/carers, staff and wider community.

The school has grown steadily over the past five years. Our total enrolments currently exceeds 1050 students, with more than 250 full-time equivalent distance education students and over 800 students enrolled in the high school campus.

We offer a wide range of curriculum options for our varied and diverse community. These include:

* Distance Education provision for students in Illawarra and South-East Region, half of Riverina Region, a number of schools in the ACT and students studying the NSW curriculum in a number of countries around the world.

* Curriculum provision for the Illawarra and South-East Industry Training College to provide senior students with an educational pathway that enables them to combine studying for their Higher School Certificate with trade training in a range of areas;

* An emphasis on curriculum differentiation in class programming to enable all students to maximise their learning potential;

* Being part of the NSW Department of Education and Training Partially-Selective High School Class Program (introduced in 2010);

* Gifted and Talented Student programs, including a Performing Arts/Gifted and Talented Student Class;

* A Special Education Unit with three classes, including a multi-categorical class;

Our school proudly services a wide and diverse community and provides all students, whether they study with us as a member of our local community or as part of our extended distance education community, with an education that equips them to be effective life-long learners and contributors to modern society.

We offer a wide and varied curriculum including strong sporting programs (with access to local, state and national competitions), effective student support programs and effective learning pathways for all students.

Our experienced staff is dedicated to providing students with the best possible learning experiences.

Our community is highly supportive of the school and participates actively in the development of school planning, policies and processes.

Our Parents and Citizens' Association meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7.30 pm, during term time, in our school's conference room. We look forward to meeting parents at these meetings, which provide an opportunity for you to find out what is happening in your school and contribute to its ongoing success.

The School Council also meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 5.30 pm, during term time, in the school's conference room. The input of our elected parent and community representatives provides a significant contribution to the school's development and achievements.

We work together to ensure that Karabar High School and Distance Education Centre provides all students with the key to success in their future lives - wherever the journey of life may take them.
