Project Overview

This project is a new purpose-built state of the art facility to accommodate the Queanbeyan Kindergarten to Year 12 Distance Education School. The senior school is currently housed in portable buildings on the Karabar High School campus, while the primary school is in the old original school building on the Queanbeyan Public School campus. These schools will be re-located into the new facility once completed.

The new facility will support the needs of approximately 950 students and provide purpose-designed spaces to support distance education.

These include:

  • interactive booths for teacher/student one-on-one video conferencing
  • interactive studios for the preparation of recorded digital and audio material and for student/teacher video conferencing where a larger space is required for movement (dance or physical education) or demonstration (science, applied arts and food technology). These studios will also be available for use by the broader Queanbeyan regional Department of Education community
  • education facilities for students to participate in Mini-Schools, providing them with the opportunity to work with teachers and other students on a range of learning activities.

These facilities include highly flexible information technology rich teaching spaces, special program rooms for science, applied studies and the arts, a kitchen for food technology, and a spacious covered outdoor learning space open to an enclosed courtyard/garden.
